You meant to slow down this fall.

You bought the fancy tea.

You promised yourself this year would be different.

And then…

…the calendar filled up. The tea is still in the cupboard. The yoga mat is still rolled up in the closet, and somewhere out there, the holidays are already loading.

That isn't a willpower problem. Most of what gets sold as wellness is a product to buy or a program to keep up with. Neither one is much fun, and neither one feels like taking care of yourself.

But here's what I keep noticing…

feeling good doesn't have to mean another supplement, another app, or another plan you'll quit by February.

There's nothing wrong with any of those. They're just not the only way in.

Meet self-care you can make

The kind you do with your own hands, in your own kitchen, for a few dollars. Here it is, three ways:

01
The way I say it

Food is medicine for real life. Nourishment that fits a regular Tuesday, not just a retreat.

02
In plain language

You make something good, you enjoy it, and your body notices. No special store, no regimen, no guilt.

03
A real example

One cabbage and a little salt can turn into something you'd pay a small fortune for at the store. You can make it for pennies, once you know the trick.

Bring your appetite. I'll bring the secrets.

Your teacher

Straight from the retreat kitchen to yours

I'm Wendee. I'm a chef and herbalist with a master's degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine and over 15 years as an acupuncturist behind me. I've spent more than two decades exploring the art and science of nourishment. This summer I cooked farm-to-table for retreats all over Oregon, with two amazing kitchen witches beside me.

At every retreat, the same thing happened. People asked me to write the recipes down. Friends asked when I'd finally teach. So this fall, I am.

Food is medicine for real life. It's been my thing for decades, and these classes are the most fun way I know to share it.

The Self-Care Super Series

Three delicious ways to nourish yourself this season

Everything in the Self-Care Super Series: a recipe card for each class, live Zoom classes with Wendee, the holiday crisp bonus class, The Retreat Table recipe book, and the coaching hour

Three cozy classes this fall. We cook, we sip, we play, and you leave each one with something you can use that night. Come to one, or come to all three. If you can warm milk, you're ready.

Across three classes, you'll learn how to:

  • Make cozy drinks you'll crave all winter (including one I won't name yet)
  • Turn one humble cabbage into a jar of the good stuff, no special gear
  • Shop for all of it at a regular grocery store, for a few dollars
  • Make every recipe your own, with flavors you already love
  • Bring a little calm into a full house when the holidays hit
  • Keep it going after class, without a strict plan or a shopping spree

This class already happened, so it comes to you as the recording, with everything else included.

Flirty Fall Fusions: Cacao, Gold, and a Secret

Three warm drinks for the season everything gets cozy. One is comfort with benefits, one is liquid gold, and one I won't name until we're together.

Why this class: in Traditional Chinese Medicine, fall is the season of letting go, and it's when the body starts asking for warmth. These drinks answer, deliciously.

How the hour goes
  1. The warm-up (literally). Why real cacao and the packet stuff are not the same drink at all.
  2. Liquid gold, the way it has been made for a few thousand years, only creamier.
  3. The reveal. Secret
The third drink, the one retreat guests ask me to write down.
  4. Your questions, live, plus the little trick that sweetens without sugar.
You'll leave with

Three drinks you'll be making all winter, including the one I won't name until we're together.

You bring

A small pot, a whisk, and your favorite mug. The short grocery list arrives a week ahead.

Class twoNovember5Thursday6:00 to 8:00 PM PacificIn person or ZoomRecording$22

This class already happened, so it comes to you as the recording, with everything else included.

The Alchemy of Fermentation

Turn one humble cabbage into a jar of the good stuff. The art and science of lacto-fermentation, made simple: two ingredients from the store and a jar.

Why this class: fermenting is one of the oldest ways people have kept food good to eat, and it's the clearest example I know of food as medicine for real life: two ingredients, a jar, and a little patience.

How the evening goes
  1. The why, fast. What lacto-fermentation actually is, in plain words.
  2. Hands in. Shred, salt, and the part everyone secretly loves.
  3. My no-scale trick, so you get it right at home without a kitchen scale.
  4. Pack the jar, then the one sign that tells you it's working.
You'll leave with

A packed jar of your own, and the confidence to make the next one without me.

You bring

A quart jar or two (homemade sauerkraut is a little addictive), a lid, a wooden spoon, one cabbage, and salt.

In person, I provide

Cutting boards, knives, and extra spices to make your sauerkraut your own.

10 seats in the room, because that's what my space holds. The address comes with your ticket. Zoom seats stay open.

Class threeNovember22Sunday2:00 to 3:00 PM PacificLive on ZoomRecording$22

This class already happened, so it comes to you as the recording, with everything else included.

Calm AF for the Holidays

How to stay grounded, and yourself, when the family comes home.

Why this class: the holidays bring everyone home, and everyone's old roles come with them. In my Luminous Soul work I teach simple ways to come back to yourself when that happens. This is the holiday-sized version.

How the hour goes
  1. Why family time pulls us off center, and why it isn't just you.
  2. A reset you can do in the bathroom at your in-laws' (nobody will know).
  3. The one thing to do before you walk in the door.
  4. A plan for the moment someone says the thing.
You'll leave with

A pocketful of practices nobody will notice you doing, and a holiday that feels a lot more like yours.

You bring

A quiet spot and something to write with.

A note: this is a self-care class, not therapy. If you're going through something heavy, I'll gladly point you to someone who can help.

Who it's for

The series may be a good fit if you…

  • Love good food, but not complicated recipes
  • Want to take better care of yourself without another program
  • Learn best when someone shows you
  • Like the idea of a few hours that are just for you
  • Are curious about food as medicine
  • Could use a little more calm before the holidays

"If you're looking for a strict plan, this isn't it. If you want to make something delicious and feel good doing it, come on in."

Questions you might be asking

I can barely cook. Is this really for me?

Then you're exactly who it's for. If you can warm milk and chop a cabbage, you can do all three.

What if I can't make it live?

Every class is recorded, and the recording is in your inbox the next morning to watch any time.

What do I need to buy?

A few groceries for each class. The short list arrives a week ahead, and nothing needs a health-food store.

Is homemade sauerkraut safe?

Yes, when it's made the traditional way, and I'll show you what's normal, what to toss, and how to tell the difference.

Is Calm AF for the Holidays a therapy session?

No. It's a self-care class with practical tools. If you're going through something heavy, I'll point you to someone qualified to help.

Where is the in-person class?

In Bend. The address comes with your ticket. There are 10 seats in the room; when they're gone, the Zoom seats are still open.

I already bought one class. Can I get the rest?

Yes. Reply to any class email before December 6 and I'll send you a way to add the whole series, bonuses included.

Can I give this as a gift?

Yes. Buy a gift card for the series ($47) or one class ($22), add a note, and choose the day it arrives. They use it right here at checkout.

What if something comes up?

Let me know at least 48 hours before a class for a full refund. After that, you'll still get the recording to watch any time.

Make something warm this season.

Three classes, a few dollars of groceries, a little mischief, and people you like. That's the whole idea.

You are luminous.
